This is our largest build yet. This set doesn’t have numbered bags so it was parts madness. I actually missed two pieces. oops. I think some smaller sets will be up next.

I’m also excited that I started work on a new iPhone app to capture these animations so they will be in even better quality. Stay tuned!

Nancy Grace Roman’s build features a posable Hubble Space Telescope with authentic details and a projected image of a planetary nebula.

Margaret Hamilton’s build features a stack of book elements, representing the books of listings of Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC) onboard flight software source code.

Sally Ride and Mae Jemison’s build features a launchpad and Space Shuttle Challenger with 3 removable rocket stages.

LEGO® 21313 Ship in a Bottle – Stop Motion Speed Build

Ahoy! Check out our largest build yet- The LEGO® Ship in a Bottle. We’re still getting the hang of photographing transparent LEGO® bricks, the lighting is quite challenging.

The most interesting build step for me was number 50 which is the tan 1 x 6 plate for the port side of the ship deck. It doesn’t connect to any studs and is held in place by gravity. These LEGO® Ideas sets really push the limits of allowed building techniques.

I also found it interesting that not all the transparent bricks had the same clarity. Some parts had a slight brownish tint. It would have been nice if the parts had more consistency.

I’m not yet sure what the format of this blog will be, but I want this to be place where you can find all my LEGO® analysis and data science experiments as I try to better understand the engineering that goes into creating official LEGO® sets.

I’m kicking this thing off with some stop motion animation movies on YouTube, mostly because it’s fun to procrastinate by building LEGO® and I might as well film it.

I’m also working on a couple MOCs that I hope to reveal in coming years. Progress has been slow so far, but there’s nothing like blogging to keep me motivated and focused.

In the coming weeks, I will launch the official branding for the blog and all of it’s social media channels where you can stay up to date on my sporadic posts.

Pardon my typo’s as I get started here, I’m better at writing for computers than English. I welcome all constructive feedback as I embark on this new challenge.
